How is the season so far for both teams?

Dallas Mavericks

  • Record: 32-29
  • Home Form: 19-12
  • Road Form: 13-17

The Dallas Mavericks have fallen two places in the Western Conference since the trade deadline. The organization must start anew after making the decision to trade their best player, Luca Doncic. The Mavericks have a 6-4 record from their last ten matches, but the better form of teams surrounding them leaves them in the final play-in spot for the time being.

Anthony Davis could feature in this encounter after a re-evaluation. Davis forced himself off while on his debut with the Mavericks and has been out for over a month as a result. On his debut, he posted 26 points and 16 rebounds, showing the Mavericks fans that he is one of the best in the West on both sides of the court when healthy. He will be a big help if he is fit on his return.

Working alongside Davis is superstar Kyrie Irving. Irving, now 32 years old, is averaging big numbers this season. His stat line has increased to 25 points for the season, across 49 matches. His average of 4.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game have increased too, showcasing that he is an incredibly valuable player within their roster. He and Davis could become a big partnership within the organization.

Phoenix Suns

  • Record: 28-33
  • Home Form: 17-13
  • Road Form: 11-20

A time of writing, no team in the West is in worse form than the Phoenix Suns. The organization are 2-8 from their last ten games, and it shows in the table charts. The Suns desperately need to regain form to stand a chance at the play-in places, as the roster is four games behind the Mavericks in the division, who are in front of them. The Suns are in trouble if they can’t claw back some of the margin with a victory in Dallas.

The Suns’ most valuable player within the roster is no doubt, Kevin Durant. Durant has played 48 games this season and is averaging his career averages of 26.7 points per game at the age of 36. Durant has seen only marginal regression in rebounds and assists, but he is far from the finished article.

Alongside Durant is another superstar in the form of Devin Booker. His form lately has seen an improvement and he is now averaging 26 points per game, in addition to matching his career best of 6.9 assists. Booker is placed in the top ten in the entire league in both points and assists, recently becoming the leading scorer for the organization in franchise history.

Value Bets

  1. Kyrie Irving, Over 25 Points and Over 5 Assists: Kyrie Irving has played against the Phoenix Suns on 23 separate occasions, with a career average of 23 points and 5.7 assists per game. These numbers are impressive, but his recent form since joining the Mavericks has raised his game to averaging 26 points. Our first value bet sees him post over 25 points and over 5 assists.

  2. Kevin Durant, Over 25 Points and Over 5 Rebounds: Kevin Durant has shown many a time his world-class talent as he has averaged an impressive 25.2 points and 7.2 rebounds across 40 separate matches against the Dallas Mavericks. This season in particular he has excelled further, averaging 30 points per game. Therefore, SportsBoom concludes Durant to prop up at least 25 points and 5 rebounds.

Prediction: Dallas Mavericks to win

SportsBoom sees the Dallas Mavericks coming out on top in this matchup. The Mavericks may see the return of Anthony Davis who will be a big help, but the Phoenix Suns are in troubling form, meaning they are there for the taking. This should be a close game, as previous head-to-head matches have indicated in recent years, but the Mavericks will complete a win on their home court.
