This all-Western Conference affair sees the sixth seed host the 12th seed as both teams want to cement their place in the playoffs and play-in, respectively. The Warriors are 9-1 since the trade deadline following the acquisition of Jimmy Butler, and the Trail Blazers are in the best form at the tail end of the play-in spots. Who will win this matchup?

Head-to-Head Record

This game is a regular feature in the Western Conference as the schedule means both franchises play each other on four separate occasions. This matchup has seen 247 regular season matches already, but only one of those games has occurred this season.

The Portland Trail Blazers have the advantage overall, winning 130 of the 247 matches, but it is still a close fixture despite games being played for over five decades. However, despite the Golden State Warriors producing an inferior 117 wins, the Bay Area-based team has won seven games in a row.

How is the season so far for both teams?

Portland Trail Blazers

  • Record: 24-38
  • Home Form: 11-22
  • Road Form: 13-16

The Portland Trail Blazers need to continue their mixed display in form to stand a chance of making the play-in. They are 5-5 from their last ten matches, a better vein in form than the two teams above them, but there is a strong possibility of making it if they can find that extra gear to close out the season.

Portland’s shooting guard Anfernee Simons is the franchise’s best scorer. Simons is averaging 19.2 points, showing that the wider roster isn’t producing enough offensively.  He is down on his previous averages from the last two seasons, but it is clear that Portland are struggling on all cylinders in attack.

Deandre Ayton is the lead rebounder within the Trail Blazers’ roster as the 26-year-old is averaging 10.1 rebounds per game. In his first season in Portland, he averaged 11.1, and while his season has seen a marginal decrease, he has only played 40 games due to battles with injuries. It seems he has settled to life in Portland after moving from the Phoenix Suns in 2023.

Golden State Warriors

  • Record: 35-25
  • Home Form: 19-9
  • Road Form: 15-15

The Golden State Warriors looked down and out for the season before the trade deadline, but after acquiring Jimmy Butler, the franchise is now the sixth seed in the West and are only looking stronger as each game progresses. The Warriors are 8-2 in their last ten games, highlighting the shift in dynamic that this team has made since his arrival.

Butler’s arrival is seen to be a breath of fresh air after joining from the Miami Heat, winning nine of the ten games he has featured in. Butler is averaging 16.3 points per game, but is averaging 5.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists, which is making an important difference inside the roster as each player is fulfilling their role as tasked.

Alongside Butler is the famous man himself, Stephen Curry. Curry has improved drastically since Butler joined too, showing that he hasn’t regressed either. He has raised his points per game average from 22 to 24 points per game, while averaging his career averages in rebounds and assists, highlighting his all-round versatility. The 36-year-old will turn 37 a few days after this upcoming clash but still looks to be one of the best players in the league on his day.

Value Bets

  1. Deandre Ayton, Over 15 Points and Over 10 Rebounds: Deandre Ayton has had plenty of games against the Golden State Warriors despite being only 26 years old, playing in 19 fixtures overall. Ayton’s career averages of 17.4 points and 10.2 rebounds will see him as a big target for the opposition, therefore, we predict him to complete a double-double in this one.

  2. Stephen Curry, Over 25 Points and Over 5 Assists: Stephen Curry’s form is looking good as of late and we expect him to maintain his form and post over 25 points and 5 assists. Curry’s form against the Portland Trail Blazers since 2020 sees him average 27.1 points and 6.2 assists, therefore, we expect a similar performance. He nearly posted a triple-double in the last game last year, but we know he will be fired up for this one.

Prediction: Golden State Warriors to win

SportsBoom predicts the Golden State Warriors will prevail. It’s hard to see otherwise considering their rich vein in form and their recent head-to-head record. The Warriors will be looking to add another win to their record and should be able to get the job done against the Portland Trail Blazers.
