Over the years this fixture has taken place 203 times in the regular season, showcasing the significance of these two teams facing off. As things stand, the Phoenix Suns have won 108 of these games.

The Suns may have the edge overall, but in recent times they have been truly dominant. Due to the nature of the fixture occurring four times a year due to both teams contesting in the same Conference, the Suns have won nine games in a row. The Jazz desperately will look into stopping this streak, but it won’t be easy given their league position.

How is the season so far for both teams?

Phoenix Suns

  • Record: 25-23
  • Home Form: 15-9
  • Road Form: 10-14

The Phoenix Suns have risen as the ninth seed after a difficult patch. The organization are the only team in the bottom half of the table to lose less than ten times showcasing their strength on their home turf. The Suns are looking to maintain their better form to try and establish a playoff spot, and considering how close it is in the Western Conference, a place could be on the cards.

Kevin Durant leads the organization in points per game, averaging 26.9 points. The 36-year-old is still impressive in the league with his averages considering his age. He has played 38 games, so it is evident he has picked up minor injuries, but he delivers a performance every time he hits the court. Durant is unquestionably the roster’s leading star. In addition to points, he is averaging 6.1 rebounds per game too.

The Suns point guard Tyus Jones has played the most games for the franchise this season, recording 47 appearances at the time of writing. He joined the organization at the start of this season and is averaging 11.2 points and 5.9 assists. He is an important feature in the team’s starting five and hasn’t come off the bench once all season. The 28-year-old is posting the second-highest numbers of his entire career in Phoenix.

Utah Jazz

  • Record: 11-36
  • Home Form: 4-17
  • Road Form: 7-19

The Utah Jazz recently demoted themselves to the bottom of the Western Conference with a troubling record of 11-36. The Jazz need a drastic turnaround and results to go their way if they were to reach the play-in, but even then, it’s unlikely for them. The Jazz have the worst home record in the division, winning only four games out of a possible 21. Away from home, they are posting double figures in wins, showcasing what the squad can produce on the road.

Finnish star Lauri Markkanen is the Jazz’s best offensive operator for the season, albeit playing worse than in previous seasons. This is the first time he is playing sub-20 points per game in his time in the state, averaging only 19.4 points per game. He isn’t matching the previous best two seasons of 23.2 and 25.6 points. Markkanen has also regressed in rebounds, showcasing a decline in transitions too.

26-year-old Collin Sexton isn’t far behind in the roster statistics with 18.7 points scored per game, but he is matching his best numbers from the previous seasons. Sexton is averaging 4.2 assists in addition, which shows an improvement in this area. The point guard is their leading starter of the season thus far therefore it could be argued he is their most valuable player for the year thus far.

Value Bets

  1. Kevin Durant: Over 30 Points and Over 5 Assists and Over 5 Rebounds

Durant’s impact on this game shouldn’t be underestimated. Against the Jazz specifically, Durant’s last ten games have seen him post astronomical numbers across the board. He averaged 32.2 points per game, 6.4 rebounds and 7.2 assists, meaning he will no doubt be fired up for this clash. Our first valued bet predicts him to post over 30 points again, in addition to producing over five assists and rebounds.

  2. Collin Sexton: Over 15 Points

Across 14 games, Sexton’s average against the Suns is exactly 16 points per game. We expect this average to continue for this upcoming fixture. In his last game in January earlier this year, Sexton produced 20 points in addition to four rebounds and assists. He should be of use for this encounter in the Jazz’s ambition to end the nine-game losing streak.

Prediction: Phoenix Suns to win

SportsBoom predicts the Phoenix Suns to get the job done against the Utah Jazz. The Suns’ recent form against the Jazz will see them as the heavy favourites, in addition to Durant’s recent performances in this meeting. The Suns will be looking to extend their streak to double digits.
