England vs Scotland Preview: Odds, Tips and Prediction

Venue: Twickenham Stadium Kickoff Time: 16:15 (UK Time) A lot has been made about the talent in this English side. They play good rugby and look to get forward with confidence, but the label of ‘flatter to deceive’ often isn’t too far away – even if online rugby betting sites haven’t reflected that in the odds available on the men from England. Scotland have powerful weapons in their arsenal, but the consistency of their threat often leaves them wondering… This could be quite an interesting game of rugby.

England Current Form – LLWLW

In their first game, England were hot and cold against a clinical Irish side. It was tight all the way through the encounter, but they struggled to keep up with their Irish opponents and ended up losing the game 27-22.

Last time out they faced France. The French are always a tricky blend of physicality, pace and skill and England would always have to ensure they keep up with the pace of the game if they wanted to come away with a big victory.

It was the 15th time in their last 17 matches that the difference has been less than ten points – but this time the Red Roses came out on the right side!

Key Players to Watch

  • Maro Itoje: Named as the English captain, Itoje is an absolute beast. He is a scary blend of both athleticism and fearless aggression making him a difficult player to handle for opponents.
  • Fin Smith: Has Smith now cemented the England number 10 role? At just 22 years old, he has already been likened to Jonny Wilkinson and given his ability to influence a game tactically – you can understand why!
  • Tom Willis: He earned a start against the French and took it with both hands. A ball-carrier with a solid defensive attribute as well, Willis has brought exceptional depth to this English side and aided them in playing positive front-foot rugby.

England Team News

Jamie George and Jack van Poortvliet are sidelined due to injury.

Scotland Current Form – LWWWL

Scotland have the firepower, both in their pack and in the backline to cause the English trouble – of that we have no doubt. Our only concern around this Scottish side is whether or not they have the ability to stay within touching distance for the duration of the 80 minutes.

Scotland have to be more ruthless – it really is as simple as that. They have the propensity to allow teams back into the game and once they do that, they pay the ultimate price.

Key Players to Watch

  • Sione Tuipulotu: Scotland’s captain for the tournament, he has been brilliant for them. His ability to run dynamic lines – with pace and power – make him difficult to defend against, but for Scotland, it is his ability to contribute to both the attacking and defensive threats which make him a player to watch.
  • Rory Darge: A player who has recently returned from injury, he has been vital for his country. His work rate and involvement at the breakdown as a jackal make him a player who can turn the game on its head.
  • Tom Jordan: Jordan really did come out of nowhere on the international stage. Now, I mean that with the greatest amount of respect, but his rise for Scotland has been most impressive. Keep an eye for his involvement come Saturday.

Scotland Team News

Darcy Graham is out injured with a concussion.

Suggested Bets

Our suggested bets for those who wants to bet on rugby are listed below.

  1. England: If the hosts are able to garner the confidence they would have received from their last outing – they win this relatively easily. 1/50 (1.02) with BetWinner

  2. England -6.5: Back the hosts to overcome the handicap set at generous odds. 6/10 (1.6) with Stake

Value Bets

  1. Firsthalf-Secondhalf – England/England: The host will want to get off to a good start, and we don’t see them allowing Scotland back into the game from there.  5/10 (1.5) with Betway

  2. Race to Ten Points (England): Back England to start strong here. 9/25 (1.36) with 1xBet

Prediction: England

They are the better team, the more complete team and the team playing at home. Scotland have the weapons to hurt them, but we don’t think they have the consistency in their. Gameplpay.

Back the hosts to follow up their huge win over France with another scalp from Scotland.
