Wales vs Ireland Preview: Odds, Tips and Prediction
Venue: Millennium Stadium Kickoff Time: 14:15 (UK Time) Wales have struggled, there is no question about it, but the concern is likely the fact that they have seemingly struggled for what feels like an eternity. Ireland, on the other hand, have started the tournament much like they ended the last one.

The Irish look really good (the best rugby betting sites tend to agree – given their opening odds), they seem balanced and absolutely head and shoulders above their European counterparts, and it is difficult to see where their weak points might be located. The odds available on an Irish win might be conservative, even for the best rugby betting sites, but a punt on the nose might still be a playable option.

Wales Current Form – LLLLL
Wales have been putrid. Coach Warren Gatland has parted ways with Wales, and in all honesty, it has been a long time coming. There is no doubt that he is a talented rugby coach, one capable of winning and achieving in any competition in the world, but it just hasn’t worked out at Wales.
Is there any Welsh rugby fan who is able to remember when was the last time Wales managed to secure a win? Okay, that might be harsh – but the point remains.
The Welsh were demolished against France in the opening weekend and then they were run flat by Italy for good measure. Now, we are not suggesting anything untoward, but if there is a silver lining for Wales, it is surely the fact that they managed to stay in the game against France, mentally. They didn’t drop their heads and there is certainly value in that.
Key Players to Watch
- Jac Morgan: The flanker from Ospreys has been incredible for the Welsh. His dynamic play, leadership ability and involvement insofar turning defence into attack shouldn’t be taken for granted. He is one to watch.
- Taulupe Faletau: One of the few players for Wales who bring experience and confidence into the team, he is a strong ball-carrying option for the Welsh. His defensive ability is second to none, his work rate is consistent and his aggressive nature has endeared him to the Welsh faithful.
- Josh Adams: He is a finisher – simple as that. A winger who is often associated with speed, agility and a hunger to finish, Adams is now often associated with an explosiveness with ball in hand. He is one to certainly watch here.
Wales Team News
At the time of writing, Wales have a fully fit squad available for the encounter.
Ireland Current Form – WLWWD
In truth, we have been perplexed by the questions and complete reservations around Sam Prendergast at fly half. He is a more than capable player who offers so much in terms of his attacking outputs.
Ireland will no doubt be encouraged after their first two games in the Six Nations. They showcased their firepower from their forwards all the way through to their outside backs. The only concern that remains possibly relevant is whether or not they can be more ruthless and kill games off earlier.
Key Players to Watch
- Caelan Doris: The Irish captain has been an absolute standout performer this far. Another strong ball-carrier and a player all too happy to get involved in the defensive system of the Irish national side.
- Hugo Keenan: Mr. Reliable, the Irish fullback is the picture of consistency. Safe under the high ball and more than capable of turning defence into attack, he has become crucial for the Irish attack.
- Tadhg Beirne: He is a versatile player who deserves the opportunities which have come his way. Capable of essentially playing anywhere on the pitch, his ball recovery from the breakdown and his unbridled athleticism allow him to come close to mastering every aspect of the game.

Suggested Bets
Our suggested bets for those who wants to bet on rugby are listed below.
Ireland: Back the visitors to claim important wins here against their Welsh counterparts. 1/50 (1.02) with BetWinner
Over 42.5): There isn’t too much suggesting this won’t be a high-scoring game of rugby. We don’t see Wales standing up to the Irish threat – especially after their lackluster start in the tournament.. 4/10 (1.4) with Stake
Ireland -11.5: Back the Irish to overcome the 11.5 handicap at decent odds. 3/20 (1.15) with Betway
Value Bets
Ireland by 15+: We know the Welsh have a new coach, and that always results in a bolstered performance, but the quality in this Irish side is undeniable and we think they win convincingly. 38/20 (1.19) with Betway
1st Half (Ireland -4.5): Value for the bigger punter, backing Ireland to clear a 4.5 handicap gives odds of 3/10 (1.3) with 1xBet
Over 36.5: Back a bigger score tally for some extra value, especially if Wales are able to contribute to the scoreline! 8/10 (1.8) with Pinnacle
Prediction: Ireland
The odds available on the Irish win are nothing to run home about, but it is another banker for the weekend. This Welsh side will have to go through a serious teething process – even with a new coach, and we don’t think they are capable of matching up to the challenge imposed by their Irish visitors.
