Often described as a game for life, tennis is a complete workout! The beauty of the game is that it is largely irrelevant whether you are a seasoned player or a novice, your heart rate inevitably increases, and you burn a ton of calories playing an incredibly enjoyable sport.

In addition, tennis offers a host of physical health benefits, mental health benefits and numerous social benefits.

Health Benefits Playing Tennis

As fun and interactive as the sport it, playing tennis has many health benefits. They include increasing the aerobic capacity of the players, lowering your resting heart rate and blood pressure, improving your metabolic function, lowering body fat and improving muscle tone, strength and flexibility. Furthermore, it will also aid your reaction time and mental sharpness.

Furthermore, tennis is non-impact and a great way to meet people and spend time outdoors. Whatever level you are able to play at, you can no doubt find a fun way to reduce stress and introduce a lifetime physical outlet to enhance a healthy lifestyle.

Former professional football player, Diego Forlan, made his debut as a professional tennis player at the age of 45! In his native Uruguay, Forlan competed in the ATP Challenger 100. Unfortunately he lost 6-1, 6-2 in just 47 minutes.

Avoiding Tennis Injuries

You should take into account any pre-existing illness or injury before playing tennis. Warming up your muscles and joints are recommended, and should be done before landing on the court.

Often, injuries through repetition occur. It is always advisable to seek out assistance to ensure that the technique and volume of tennis played are appropriate to not only your fitness level, but tennis ability. Ensure you have plenty of fluids and drink water regularly during the game. Where the outdoor surfaces are wet or moist, postpone your game for safety purposes!

Find a court and get playing!
