79 vs Mumbai Indians, 2013

During a league fixture in 2013 played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Chennai Super Kings slumped to 79 all out which is CSK’s lowest score in IPL history. MI vs CSK is considered a classical clash in the tournament and saw CSK slump to their lowest total of 79 all out. MI won the toss and opted to bat and were restricted to a below-par total of 139/5 which proved too big for CSK as they were bundled for 79 in just 15.2 overs. Michael Hussey top scored with 22 at the top of the order with Ravindra Jadeja (20) and MS Dhoni (10) the only batters to score in double digits. Pragyan Ojha (3/11), Mitchell Johnson (3/27), Lasith Malinga (2/6), Harbhajan Singh (1/13) and Pawan Suyal (1/21) all bowled tidy spells and choked the runs. Johnson picked all his wickets in the powerplay reducing CSK to 32/4 after 6 overs.

97 vs Mumbai Indians, 2022

Against the same opposition at the same stadium in 2022, CSK stumbled yet again for their 2nd double-digit team total in IPL history. Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to bowl first. CSK could score just 32 runs and lost half of their side in the powerplay itself with the top 4 of Gaikwad, Conway, Moeen Ali and Robin Uthappa failing to score into double digits. MS Dhoni remained unbeaten with 36 and was the top scorer. Left-arm seamer Daniel Sams picked up 3 wickets with Kumar Kartikeya (2/22) and Riley Meredith (2/27) finding their names in the wicket column as well. Jasprit Bumrah (1/12) and Ramandeep Singh (1/5) were also economical.

109 vs Rajasthan Royals, 2008

In the first-ever IPL season, CSK slumped to 109 in a league contest against the eventual champions Rajasthan Royals. Batting first after Dhoni won the toss, CSK lost 4 wickets for 38 runs in the powerplay with Suresh Raina holding the fort scoring a run-a-ball 27 before becoming the 6th wicket to fall. Albie Morkel top scored with 42 in 33 balls in the lower order pushing the team past 3 figures. S Badrinath (15) and pacer Makhaya Ntini (11) were the other 2 batters to find themselves past double digits. For the Royals, left-arm seamer Sohail Tanvir picked up 6/14, the best bowling figures in the history of the tournament for almost 11 years.

109 vs Mumbai Indians, 2019

Another classical rivalry between MI and CSK at Chepauk. The hosts won the toss and sent MI to bat first restricting them to 155/4. Chasing the around-par total, CSK lost Shane Watson in the first over itself which followed a middle-order collapse as 7 batters were dismissed in single-digit figures. CSK couldn’t recover from Lasith Malinga’s 4/37 and were bundled out in 17.4 overs. Murali Vijay was the top scorer with 38 in 35 balls Mitchell Santner took 2 wickets and scored 22 in 20 with Dwayne Bravo hitting 20 in 17 balls. Overall, CSK hit only 3 sixes, equaling the number of sixes Rohit Sharma hit alone in the first innings.

110/8 vs Delhi Daredevils, 2012

In the 2012 season, CSK had a horrible run with the bat in a few games including this encounter against the Delhi Daredevils. DD skipper Virender Sehwag won the toss and elected to bowl first. 3 of the first 4 CSK wickets to fall were run out such was the dismal performance from the side. The innings saw another run out late in the innings making it 4 run-outs in an innings, the 2nd most in an IPL innings. Dwayne Bravo was the top scorer with 22 in 31 balls with the 2nd wicket partnership of 26 runs between Faf du Plessis and Suresh Raina being the highest.
