World Championship Final Rematch in Belfast

As the Premier League Darts caravan rolls into Belfast for Night Nine, all eyes are on the reigning world champion, Luke Humphries, as he gears up to take on Luke Littler in what promises to be an electrifying showdown.

Humphries Unchanged Amidst Success

Despite his meteoric rise to the summit of the sport, Humphries remains grounded and unfazed by the spotlight that accompanies his success. Ahead of the night in Belfast, Humphries told SportsBoom.com that nothing has changed for him despite his remarkable achievements.

After being asked whether his fellow players on the tour treat him differently now that he holds the titles of world number one, reigning world champion, and has clinched three consecutive Premier League nights, the humble champion responded: “No, not at all. I still just go out there and play my darts. Nothing really has changed for me. My dream was to be world champion, I have achieved that so I’m just taking everything in my stride on the stage.

Luke Littler’s Demanding Schedule

Acknowledging the media frenzy surrounding his triumphs, Humphries expressed empathy for his opponent, Luke Littler, who shoulders a significant burden of media duties. Despite the newfound attention, Humphries lauded Littler's resilience and dedication to promoting the sport.

“The media that comes out of it, I feel sorry sometimes for Luke [Littler], he has a heavy burden of media duties. I’m the world champion, and that comes with a lot of media which I’ve had to accept, but he’s taken a big burden off my back in a way,” stated Humphries.

The demanding media schedule may shed light on the Warrington wonderkid’s recent struggles in the Premier League and his decision to withdraw from several upcoming Pro Tour events.

The Nuke in the Spotlight

Humphries went on to commend Littler's work ethic, highlighting his recent appearances on esteemed platforms such as the Jonathan Ross Show and Comic Relief as a testament to his commitment to elevating darts.

“I do feel sorry for him sometimes, but I think he's handling it really well and he's a really respectful kid. He’s recently done the Jonathan Ross Show, and Comic Relief, it just shows how hard he is working for our sport. I really appreciate all the hard work he puts in, and people don't realise how busy he is,” Humphries added.

Despite his accolades and recent domination in the Premier League, Humphries remains grounded and respectful towards his opponents, including Littler. His unwavering dedication to his craft, both on and off the stage, serves as a testament to his character and determination.

Rivalry Renewed

Despite their short, yet storied history which began with Humphries triumphing over Littler in the World Championship final in their inaugural professional encounter, the tide has turned in their subsequent matchups. Littler has demonstrated his prowess by besting Humphries in their next three meetings, securing victories at the Dutch Darts Masters and twice in the Premier League.

This reversal of fortunes adds an intriguing layer of anticipation to their impending clash in Belfast, as Humphries seeks redemption while the 17-year-old aims to maintain his winning streak against the reigning world champion.

As the two Lukes prepare to face off in Belfast, fans can expect a thrilling encounter fuelled by mutual respect and a shared passion for the sport. With Humphries' humility and Littler's tenacity on full display, the stage is set for an unforgettable night of Premier League Darts action.
