In the ever-evolving world of professional sports, where contracts, negotiations, and transitions can be a labyrinth of complexities, Jori Davis, a seasoned professional basketball player and entrepreneur, is on a mission to revolutionize the industry with her groundbreaking app, Wevolv.

Wevolv allows international athletes a chance to analyse their sports contracts, as well as tap into a community of sports minds.  Jori sat down with SportsBoom’s Wade McElwain to discuss her career in international basketball, as well as launching a game-changing, industry app.

The Catalyst for Change

Davis's journey began with a realisation that the sports industry, particularly in the realm of women's sports, lacked transparency and fair compensation practices. As she recounts, "I felt there was no real transparency in the marketplace. And I felt that due to the landscape of how our overseas world is, there could be a different peer-to-peer model that could help us help each other and share information."

"I hit that wall at some point every day. Every time a player comes to me with an issue, and I'm like, yo, this is ridiculous. Same stories, but it was my seventh year abroad, I was playing in Battipaglia, which is the south of Italy. And I was leading the league in scoring. And that's where I was like, this is ridiculous. This is ridiculous."

Building a Solution: The Birth of Wevolv

Fueled by her frustrations and a desire to empower fellow athletes, Davis embarked on a journey to create Wevolv, a revolutionary platform designed to provide transparency, community, and support for players navigating the complexities of the sports industry.

"We are the solution. We seek everything. We've talked about all these problems. We are the solution. There is no NCAA, no FBA, no organization that will ever give us what we need. The business is growing, fans are getting more tech than we have as the actual talent. So it's up to us to shift that."

Features and Benefits of Wevolv

As a newbie app creator, David couldn’t be more passionate about the potential of Wevolv for global athletes. It offers a comprehensive suite of features tailored to the needs of athletes, who may not have a full understanding of the teams process. Among some of the top qualities Jori looks to provide with Wevolv includes:

Contract Analysis:
Athletes can upload their contracts, and Wevolv's team of legal experts will provide detailed feedback, highlighting any concerning clauses and offering guidance.

Community Connection:
The app facilitates peer-to-peer networking, allowing athletes to connect with others in their sport, share experiences, and seek advice.

Vetted Service Providers:
Athletes can access a curated list of vetted service providers recommended by the We Evolve community, ensuring they receive quality support.

Anonymous Q&A:
Users can anonymously ask questions and receive insights from the collective wisdom of the community.

Wevolv might be new in the sporting world, but Davis is also optimistic about the growth thus far: "We have about 106 athletes, It's growing. It is invite only, so of course taking our time, due to the privacy and the trust nature of the app. But it's, it's going well.”

Overcoming Resistance and Embracing Transparency

As with any disruptive innovation, Davis has faced resistance from those benefiting from the industry's opaque practices. However, she remains undeterred, recognizing the power of the collective voice.

"Some agents are trying to do, you know, exclusive deals, and I'm like, you don't understand this. We can't do a deal with one agent. You know, that's impossible. And if you want to be a part of the platform on another part of the server, these, this is what it takes to be on that platform."

Davis firmly believes that transparency is inevitable and that the athlete community's collective strength will outweigh any opposition to change.

As the 2024 Olympics approach, Jori Davis and Wevolv are poised to make a significant impact, empowering athletes to take control of their careers, fostering community, and driving much-needed transparency in the sports industry.
